ASHA
CHALLENGE
To abstract hope into a representation for ASHA
CONCEPT
Simply flower, grounded-feet, and wing-like leaves.
CONTEXT I was having a conversation
with a friend of mine named Walter Ferix, who went on a trip to
India to support the ASHA
organization there. I decided to do my small part in providing support
(please note: I differentiate support from charity). Since its support
is for children, it makes natural sense to me to portray it like
children. If it is drawn by a child, i think it will look something
like that.
Now comes the representation
part whereby each petal represents the support chapters from various
continents around the world flanking to produce the sweet nectar
in the central chapters in India. With Singapore as the latest inclusion,
it counts at 8 and will probably grow in time to come. The foot
is about giving support to the children to be independent rather
than to be dependent from the assistance received. Finally, the
wing-like leaves will soar towards to achieve the objective mission
statement when they are ready.
The entire picture is actually
framed by shades of black to represent hours of darkness with the
flower emitting light. Finally, i like to chip in my own poetry
style to express...
“The dawning of hope
begins at the hour of dusk.” Quoted
by Ang Chong Lai.
