ASOMORPHIC ANOMALY
CHALLENGE
To create a new anomaly.
CONCEPT
To morph and warped order-chaos versus chaotic-order using a new word called “asomorphic”..
CONTEXT
Oil on canvas. 168cm x 108cm.
Recently introduced to the art of M.C. Escher by a book i am reading. I was rather inspired by one of his piece, titled 'Mosaic II' and decided to "imitate" him to express my personal disagreement with some stuff i read from Erwin Schrodinger with regard to the notion of "survival of the fittest."
This piece is generally drafted with excessive details to give a sense of grotesque to the viewer. The overloaded information is a cross between the five elements of nature, animals, creatures, fantasy and reality. A short screenplay to express this notion:
Nether World: “ A chanced meeting took place between Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972) and Mara Ang Chong Lai (1976-2004). They gathered at a place known as Limbo, and decided to paint an observed phenomenon through their spirits within the shell of ‘i’ and freewill of ‘I’.”
Hokusai: “Why are my ships in ‘Great Wave off Kanagawa’ morphed into a dulcimer?”
Escher: “Why is my guitar in ‘Mosaic II’ amongst the waves?”
Mara: “Why are there no strings on the uncello of ‘ PlasmOverOcean’?”
I: “Music is the language of emotions. A tool that produces it can harmonize or jar the spirit. Having no strings attached demonstrates the importance of music and not its tool that produces it.”
i: “What is Asomorphic’?”
I: “It is a non-existential word created to answer the imperfect knowledge of language. It is a metamorphosis of isomorphic. ‘Asomorphic’ is regularity and irregularity operating within a framework of regularity. The notion of adaptation is in fact a singular frozen frame extracted from a scene with slippery sliding components of nature infusing ‘The Great Wave Off Kanagawa’. ‘Asomorphic’ carries evolution in realism relative to the patterned ‘Mosaic II’ and addresses the notion of change.”
i: “What is Anomaly?”
Hokusai: “’Laws of Nature’?”
Escher: “’Origin of Species’?”
Mara: “’Survival of the Fittest’?”
I: “In this simply vulgar and brutally deceptive real world, who is really getting the better of whom?”
All three echoed: “What is life?”
All three chose to sip their tea with stoic appreciation.
Simultaneous smiles and cheers: “Life is colourful, Schrödinger.”
End.
